After a few days in Nairobi.....

...we're beginning to feel more "at home."  The temps are cool (in the 60's) - wish we had packed a few more warmer clothes!  There are a few projects Judd & Tim can work on in the print shop while the workers are off for the weekend.  I hope to be able to practice with the video camera in preparation for days ahead in Goma.  I'm also going to be working on a bit of laundry in preparation for our departure next Tuesday for Rwanda and then Goma.  Thankfully there is a normal washing machine here, I'm just trying to figure out the tricks to run it.  Being it's a cool, rainy day, the challenge is to get wet clothes hung up inside to dry.  Today I'd be battling rain showers trying to get anything to dry hanging outside.  That's why I'm preparing in advance for our departure.

A major praise item:  It seems that our lack of lodging problem for September 12-30 has been solved.  This morning Judd was able to confirm that we will be able to arrive at the Maji Matulivu guest house earlier than October 1.  Praise the Lord!!  God is so good.

In closing, I have a little experiment for each of you:  Tonight, try brushing your teeth with only a bottle of water and a cup - no faucet water!  It's also been interesting cooking using only bottled water.  Makes you appreciate those little conveniences we take for granted. ;)

Thanks so much for your prayers and your interest.  Goodbye for now (Kwa Heri).

MADE IT TO NAIROBI

Good Morning from Nairobi, Kenya.  Pinch me - is this real??   It's a cool morning (61 degrees F), overcast, with lots of promise for the day.  Our God is good!

After flying 8 hrs from Minneapolis to Amsterdam, arriving just before sunrise, we searched the airport for a quiet corner with lounger chairs where we could rest and prepare for our next 8 hr flight to Nairobi.  This flight was full!!  We arrived Nairobi at 10 pm, but it took about 2 hrs getting through the different clearances for immunizations, immigration, and then customs.  For the 3 of us traveling together, we had 7 large bags, 3 carryon pcs, and 3 personal items.  God graciously helped all of the pieces clear without incident.  The baggage handler strike in Amsterdam didn't effect any of our luggage.

We're spending these first 6 days at the Publish4All compound in Nairobi.  Judd & Tim are going to be installing some new equipment and training.  For Judd it will be good reminders of what's to come for Goma.  The Team here is excited about having a power paper cutter to enhance the hand powered option, and also a new laminating machine to help improve the overall production.  These days also offer us all a chance to recover from jet lag before arriving in Goma.

Please continue to pray that we would be a blessing to the team here, as well as the team awaiting us in Goma.  Pray that we would have safe travels while here, and also continuing on through Rwanda to Goma, DRC at the end of the month.

BACK HOME !!

We made the decision to leave Goma ahead of schedule due to the increasing tensions there.  On Nov 2 we left Congo and were able to spend 1...
